Challenge

The UK's only homeless people's professional theatre company. They work with people and for people who have experience of homelessness or those at risk of becoming homeless to create theatre that changes lives as individuals as well as changing perceptions in wider society.

Revenue Model

Cardboard Citizens takes plays to theatres around the country as well as hostels, day centres, prisons and deliver a program of creative workshops for people who are affected by homelessness either in partnership with homelessness organisations or in their East London arts space.

Impact

Cardboard Citizens makes theatre for social change. They empower people with lived experience of homelessness and strive to change society’s perceptions of homeless people. They create theatre that illuminates homelessness, supporting participants to develop confidence, skills, qualifications and employment.

During Covid-19 they’ve been offering online and 1-2-1 pastoral support to members.
